My Visit to the Museum of Science and Industry
Today I went to visit the Museum of Science and Industry with my cousin Jennifer and her 2 sons, Jack and Gavin. They boys liked the photos of the dinosaurs that I took at the Field Museum, and wanted to go there, but there are more kid-friendly exhibits at MSI than the Field Museum. We’ll probably goto the Field Museum some other time, though I don’t really know that there’s much that the boys would find that much fun at the Field, aside from the dinosaurs…
First we went to the top floor, where they have a number of life science exhibits. Here is a huge replica of the human heart that you can walk through:
They have a number of full-size airplanes hanging inside the museum:
In the robot exhibit, they have a prop Sentinel from The Matrix:
While they were in the NetWorld exhibit on Internet technology, the boys started dancing to a techno beat on a projected digital floor:
Finally, they have the actual Apollo 8 Command Module. Apollo 8 was the first manned spacecraft to orbit the moon, in 1968:
Unfortunately, they were renovating the space exhibit, so I couldn’t take many pictures. Most of the other exhibits are more interactive, but the space exhibits have a lot of actual spacecraft or models etc. They are supposed to open a Star Wars exhibit in October, so we may go back again once that opens. On the way home, as I was driving down Lake Shore Drive, we saw a number of jets flying in formation - they must have been practicing for the Chicago Air & Water Show, which is this weekend. We had a wonderful day though, and it was fun to enjoy a last day out before my college schedule starts on Monday…
